Dune: Spice Wars
Dune: Spice Wars is a real-time strategy enriched with clearly outlined 4X elements. The production was based on the license of Dune, the best-selling science fiction novel by Frank Herbert. It was developed by the Shiro Games team, whose portfolio includes the related genre Northgard.
Storyline
Dune: Spice Wars takes us on a journey into the distant future. The action of this production was set on the planet Arrakis, which is the source of Melange - the titular spice that expands consciousness, allows for interstellar travel and extends life, making it the most valuable resource in the Universe. During the game, we lead one of the factions and, as Prince Leto Atreides or Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, take complete control over this desert globe and, consequently, over the Melange deposits. It is only up to us how we will achieve our goal.
Mechanics
In Dune: Spice Wars we watch the action from a bird's eye view. While playing, we focus primarily on extracting the spice. By sending ornithopters to scout, we gradually discover the map and learn the location of Melange deposits, to which we can then send reapers designed to extract it. We sell the collected resources, and the funds can be used to expand our headquarters, improve technology, and finally recruit soldiers. We need a powerful army both to defend our estates against enemy attempts and to conquer new territories.
